Timothy Mcnickle

March 19, 1970 — May 5, 2024

Timothy McNickle, 54, passed away Sunday evening May 5, 2024 at home with family, ending his eight year battle with cancer. Born at Edwards AFB California on March 19, 1970, Tim was the son of Paul J McNickle and Barbara (Loss) McNickle of Frederick, and younger brother of Christopher T. McNickle of Franklin TN. Never married, Tim jointly owned the home he shared with his parents and sister Anita C. McNickle.

With his father in the Air Force, Tim grew up in California, Allentown PA, Albuquerque, NM, and Burke VA. He attended the college of William and Mary in Williamsburg VA, earning his BA in Biology in 1992 and did graduate work at Hood College in Frederick, taking evening classes for several years. Tim worked as a biologist for BioWhitaker in Walkersville (now Lonza) developing vaccines using horse serum. We liked to ask him who holds the horses when you poke them? In 2000, Tim moved to the National Cancer Institute at Fort Detrick, working in the laboratories of SAIC and more recently Leidos, where he greatly appreciated the support of his co-workers over the past few years.

An avid reader of science fiction and theology, Tim enjoyed the Lord of the Rings trilogy and related spin-offs, Star Wars, and Catholic author Scott Hahn. Tim served for many years as an usher at St John’s in Frederick with Charles Poindexter. When cancer struck, he began attending St Katharine Drexel because “the parking is easier,” and got to know the pastor, Fr Keith Boisvert, who was of great spiritual support Tim’s last few months.

Tim is survived by his parents, brother, and sister, his sister-in-law Anne Petruska McNickle of Franklin, TN and niece Katherine Anna McNickle, 18, his aunts Margaret McNickle of Frederick and Helen Williams of Charlotte, NC, and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was especially close to his cousin Karl F. Williams, who died in 2004.
