T. Gregory Hutton, D.D.S.

September 18, 1939 — December 30, 2023

Thomas Gregory "Greg" Hutton, D.D.S., of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 30, 2023.  He was 84 years old and was the loving husband of Kathleen for 42 years.

Greg was born on September 18, 1939 to Ursula Shaw and Thomas Gregory Hutton in Indianapolis, IN and grew up in Bethesda, MD.  He graduated from Bethesda – Chevy Chase High School in 1957 and Capital University in Columbus, OH in 1963.  He always knew that he wanted to become a dentist and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 1967.

Greg was sworn into the Army Branch Reserve by his brother Wally in the summer of 1962.  During dental school, he served in the Medical Service Corps and advanced to the rank of Captain after graduating.  He was stationed in Seoul, Korea from 1967 to 1968 and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970.

He practiced dentistry for nearly 50 years, spending most of his career in the Professional Building on N. Market Street in downtown Frederick.  He completed his career at the Avondale Professional Center, retiring in 2016.

Greg was an active member of the Frederick community, including serving as the president of the Frederick Kiwanis Club.  He was also engaged as a member of the Frederick County Dental Society, where he served as president, and the Maryland State Dental Association, where he served as a trustee and delegate.

Greg was always a lover of jazz music, and he played alto saxophone with the Police Boys Club Band and headlined a band with friends while growing up.  He shared his passion for music with his daughters.

Greg was the loving father of two daughters, Laura and Diana.  He found great joy in planning family vacations each summer and could always be found behind the camera documenting their latest trip.  He also loved to take his daughters to baseball and football games.  In his retirement, Greg spent a great deal of time traveling with Kathleen to visit his grandsons who he loved profoundly.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Wally and Doug.  He is survived by his wife Kathleen, his daughters Laura Hutton Luner and her husband Jared of Denver, CO, and Diana Hutton Mobley and her husband Aaron of Florence, SC, grandsons Thomas Luner and Hutton and Henry Mobley, and many nieces and nephews, especially Brock and Shane Hutton who have always been close to their “Unc.”

The family will receive friends at Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, on Friday January 5th, 2024 from 4 to 7 PM, and a celebration of Greg’s life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday January 6th, 2024 at Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes.
