Sylvia Ann Johnson

Sylvia Ann Johnson passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the Frederick Health Hospital. Born in Frederick on September 30, 1934, the only child of Janet and Albert Waldschmidt of Frederick.

Sylvia graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring in 1952. She married Lawrence Johnson of Kensington, MD, who passed away in 1984 after 32 years together. Sylvia then shared 18 years from 1989 to 2007 with Bernard "Snapper" Denell who passed away in 2007. She was employed by David Quin of Maas Opticians in Frederick. Sylvia was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served as an usher. She was an honorary life member of Francis Scott Key American Legion Auxiliary Unit 11 where she served as Chaplain for 30 years, chairman of the Gold Star Program and Volunteer at many Legion activities; and a member of the American Legion Riders.

Sylvia is survived by son Lawrence Johnson (Jennie) of Louisiana and daughter Brenda Propheter of Frederick; son in law Frederick Propheter (Linda), 5 granddaughters - Ann Marie Mitchell (Chuck), Bonnie Lynn Hinkle (Hubert), Sara Weeks, Suzanne Phillips (John) and Jennifer Murray (Matthew). 13 Great grandchildren Katelyn, Cassandra, Alexandra, Jonas, Sylvia, Adonis, Althea, Kiara, Naomi, Vivian, Elias, Jackson, and Nolan. In addition to her parents and spouses, she is predeceased by great grandson Dominick Lawrence Gonzalez.

Family and friends can gather at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Monday January 16, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 10am. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
