John David Zimmerman

January 21, 1935 — August 9, 2024

John David Zimmerman went home to be with his Lord on Friday August 9, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born to John Melvin and Grace Grove Zimmerman on January 21, 1935, at Maple Homestead, Frederick, Maryland.
John David graduated from Frederick High School in 1953. He worked on the family farm for several years and then at Southern States Co-op in Frederick for 38 years. Dave was married to Naomi Breeden Zimmerman on June 28, 1959. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 28, 2024.
He was a lifetime member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren and served in many capacities. He was a deacon for over 64 years, went on disaster relief mission trips, co-founded the Friendship Sunday School Class in 1959, and was a member of the Morning Singers Choir. Dave hosted bible study in his home and loved to share his testimony whenever the opportunity arose. He loved his Lord, family, gardening, and sharing vegetables with friends and family.
John David is survived by his devoted wife, Naomi, and children Mark Zimmerman (Becky), Frederick, Maryland, Rita Lynch Crawford, Jefferson, Maryland, and Deborah Stallings, Inwood, West Virginia. He is also survived by grandchildren Brandon Clabaugh, Brittany Zimmerman Jorgenson, Brooklyn Zimmerman Bender, Dylan Zimmerman, Christina Mellott Krous, Darryl Zimmerman, Melissa Lynch, Eric Stallings, Christian Stallings, Matthew Stallings and lifelong friend Donald Easterday. He has 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marietta Harsher, Rebecca Wetzel and Ruby Baker; son, Robin Zimmerman, and grandson, Ryan Lynch.
The family wishes to thank all of Dave's caregivers and Hospice of Frederick County. John David will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends can gather at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick, Maryland 21701 on Saturday August 17, 2024 from 9:30 am until the start of the funeral service at 11am. Interment will follow at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Feagaville.
