Hubert White

Hubert (Duke) Graham White passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Country Meadows in Frederick, Maryland. Duke was born September 27, 1925, in Ashkum, Illinois, to Victor Hubert White and Aileen (Crain) White both deceased. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 81 years, Jo Anne (Henderson), by his eldest daughter, Joyce Hughes (Ron), and by his only sibling, Barbara Nell Hefner (Clefford).

He is survived by his children Bruce White (Andrea), Sherry Shepard (Larry), Victor White (Mary Jo), Pat Bender (Bill), Ron White (Linda), and Carey White (Debbie). Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Duke proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II at the California Naval Base where he refined his skills to become a master aviation mechanic. His aviation career included increasingly responsible roles in private industry and in the federal government, and he retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as a Flight Standards Divisional Supervisor. With his wife, he was a faithful church member serving wherever he was needed.

Duke was a lifelong blood donor and a lover of history, classical music, car racing, airplanes, motorcycles, and spotlessly clean automobiles. He never declined a Scrabble game with his wife or a big dish of fresh ice cream. He will be deeply missed.

The family will welcome friends at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 South Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268, on Wednesday, January 22. Viewing from 10-11AM, followed by a brief service. A short graveside service will immediately follow at Green Hill Cemetery, 953 South Potomac Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
