Herbert Bruce Linton, 81, of Frederick, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 15, 2019. He was born on January 19, 1937, in Solon, Ohio. He has resided in Frederick since 1968.
He is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Ruwe and her husband William of Edmond, Oklahoma; his son, Daniel, his wife Jeanette and their children Nathaniel and Elizabeth of Buckeystown; and his son Thomas, his wife Lauri and their son Dylan of Park City, Utah; one sister Eltha Bartels and her husband Harry of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, and two brothers, Ralph Linton and his wife Kay of Twinsburg, Ohio, and David Linton and his wife Jennace of Champaign, Illinois; and 12 beloved nieces and nephews and their families. Bruce was preceded in death by Madelyn, his wife of 47 years, and his parents, Herbert and Thelma Linton.
Bruce was a third-generation Linton to be born and raised in Solon, Ohio. He graduated from Solon High School in 1954, and then attended Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio for Civil Engineering. It was at Case where Bruce met Madelyn McCray, a nursing student at nearby Western Reserve. He married Madelyn on November 9, 1963. They lived in Solon until moving to Frederick in 1968. He began his career in the Frederick area with Todd Steel, which later became Canam Steel in Point of Rocks. As a civil engineer, he designed structural steel for roofing and flooring in large commercial buildings. He retired in 2002.
Throughout Bruce’s life, he was known for his quick wit, stepping up to help whenever needed, and his deep love for family. He cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Although he and Madelyn moved away from their families, they made it a priority to travel back to the Midwest frequently to visit their siblings, nieces and nephews, and their children. He also cherished when his family visited him in Frederick. These visits were filled with laughter and love.
Among his many other activities and interests were playing games, gardening, enjoying seafood and sweets, researching his family genealogy, and singing in choirs including the Catoctones Barbershop Chorus in the 1970’s and the One God One Voice choir in recent years. A constant example of serving in the church, Bruce was always in the choir, served as an elder, and led several youth groups, Sunday School classes, and Bible studies. With his engineering skills, he was frequently on building committees, and an instrumental part of building two churches. Bruce’s twinkling eyes, deep laugh, and kind heart will be missed by many.
