Gary Lee Specht

Gary Lee Specht, 84, of Frederick, MD, passed away on Wednesday November 27, 2024 at the Edenton Retirement Community. Born on December 31, 1939 in Frederick to the late Carlos Caldwell and Sylvia DeLauter Specht.

Gary graduated from Frederick High School in 1958. He would go on to join the United States Army where he proudly served as a chaplain’s aide throughout Europe. After serving in the military Gary would work for the Farmers and Mechanics  National Bank until his retirement.
Gary was a livelong and active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Doubs, and later Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church after the churches combined. He was the church’s organist for over 60 years. He also enjoyed traveling, studying history, genealogy, and classical music.

Gary is survived by cousins Edgar (Margaret) Hawker and David (June) Hawker, close friends Carol (Richard) Heffner, William McKimmy, Robert (Linda) Norris, Daniel (Jane) Phillips, and Mary Anne Golling. He was predeceased by his parents, paternal grandparents David and Bertha Heim Specht, maternal grandparents Walter and Myra Whipp DeLauter, and his special friend Sharon Norris.

Family and friends can gather at the Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703 on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 1pm until the start of the funeral service at 2pm. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gary’s name to Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703.
