Dixie Lee Hindman (nee Hobbs), age 87, of Westminster, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at University of Maryland, Shock Trauma, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Dixie was born on October 10, 1937, in Whiting, Iowa, to Charles Ervin and Helen Dorlean Hobbs. Dixie attended Morningside College where she earned a teaching degree, and met her future husband, Willis James Hindman (Jim) and they began their whirlwind of a life together. They were married on June 15, 1958.
During their sixty-six years of marriage Dixie had the time of her life following her and Jim’s careers and dreams. She was the quintessential wife and mother that provided the stability and support to her husband and children so they could have the successes they all did. She was the unsung hero of the Hindman team, and everyone knew it.
But Dixie had her own successes. In addition to her teaching degree, she went on to get her Nursing Home Administrator license in 1971 and ran Chapel Hill Nursing home for 20 plus years in a top notch way. While she was working full-time, she was raising her 2 very active children, Cindi and Tim, carting them to all their school and sporting activities, cheering them on every step of the way. And if that was not enough, she soon played the role of mom to many football players. The Hindman house was always full of kids whether it was her children and their friends or the many football players Jim would bring home. Dixie will always be best known for her wonderful ability to make one feel welcome with her kind ways, her comfortable home and her delicious food.
Once Jim and Dixie retired, they bought her dream house, a beautiful horse farm in Westminster, where they spent the next chapter of their lives raising racehorses, flowers and grandchildren. She was adored by her grandchildren for all her love and laughter and the best decorated birthday cakes ever. Dixie’s happiest times were spending time with her grandchildren on her farm.
Dixie is survived and greatly missed by her husband, Jim, daughter and son-in-law, Cindi Hindman and Paul Feinberg, and their two children Eli and Hannah Feinberg, son and daughter in law Tim and Ruthie Hindman, and their children Kate, and Kelly. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Toby.
A celebration of life for Dixie will be held at their farm in the spring of 2025.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital in her memory
