Chester (Chet) Dewayne Pleasant, 77, of Myersville, MD, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Sterling Care South Mountain, Boonsboro, MD. Chet was born January 21, 1946, in Rhody, VA. He was the son of the late Georgia Cain Pleasant and Lester Ernest Pleasant. He is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Carolyn Wyatt Pleasant and three daughters: Aimee DeBaugh and husband, Ted of Boonsboro, MD; Colleen Pleasant Kline and husband, David of Baltimore, MD; and Joanna Summers and husband, Andy of Boonsboro, MD. Grandchildren are Olivia and Parker DeBaugh, Barrett Kline, Justin Pleasant and Hailey Smith. Chet’s marriage to Carolyn brought him more children and grandchildren. His stepchildren are Beth Perry of Lake Mary, FL, Greg Currey of Middletown, MD, Bill Currey of Myersville, MD, and Chris Currey of Rancho Santana, Nicaragua. His step grandchildren are William Murphree, Kaitlin Murphree, Michelle Currey, Gavin Currey, Maritza Currey, and Neila Currey. Chet was the oldest of eight children. He is survived by three sisters and one brother: Saundra Pleasant of Emmitsburg, MD; Paula Myers of Frederick, MD; Pamela Kelly of Gaithersburg, MD, and Bob Pleasant of Olathe, KS. He is predeceased by two sisters and one brother: Rhonda Williams, Brenda Russell, and Ernest Pleasant. Chet served in the Army from October 1967 until December 1971. He was a medic in the 53rd Missile Battalion. He spent most of his time in Vincenza, Italy. His duties were varied. He served in the outpatient clinic, physical therapy, pediatrics and, on occasion, drove the ambulance. Chet worked for Sears from 1969-2011. He began his Sears career at White Oak Mall, MD. In the ensuing years he worked for Sears in Chambersburg, PA, Hagerstown, MD. Frederick, MD, and Bethesda, MD. In 1992 he left Sears for a brief period to work for Montgomery Wards and Bray and Scarff. In 1996 he returned to the Westfield Mall, Bethesda, MD Sears and stayed until his retirement in 2011. In all, Chet worked thirty-seven years for Sears. Chet was a professional salesman. For most of his career he sold appliances. He felt pride in being well informed about each of the products so he could give good advice and suggestions. This led to many repeat customers, and he frequently found himself dealing with their children and other relatives. Chet’s favorite pastime was Golf. He enjoyed the sport and the camaraderie. His favorite course was the one he was playing at the time. He enjoyed watching golf on television, reading golf magazines, researching and purchasing golf equipment, and giving golf advice. July 22, 2014, he made a HOLE IN ONE at South Hills. Chet loved to travel and see new places. The Army gave him the opportunity to see Barcelona, London, Venice and parts of Germany. In later years he cruised and traveled with Carolyn and friends to see Alaska, Berlin, Rome, Paris, Athens, Amsterdam, the Panama Canal and many other sites. He was always interested in new adventures and new facts to remember and share. Chet liked playing cards. He especially enjoyed fun evenings playing Hand and Foot, with his sister-in-law Frani and her husband, Jeff. There was lots of laughing, shuffling, counting and cheering. Playing Hand and Foot regularly with a small group of local friends was also a real pleasure for him. Chet was especially proud of his family and enjoyed family activities. He always watched his children and grandchildren with pride. Chet was a warm, caring and loving man.
