Ruby Virginia Roderick

Miss Ruby Virginia Roderick, 97, of Frederick, died on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Northampton Manor Health Care Center. Born in Urbana on June 13, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Harry McComas and Eula Irene Norwood Roderick. Ruby attended school in Urbana and was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1933. After high school she went into the nursing program at Frederick Memorial Hospital and graduated in 1936. She then worked at the Hospital for 10 years, then in the office for Dr. William Trail in the Professional Building on Market Street, before retiring in 1982 from nursing she worked for Dr. William Colliver. She was a member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren, where she served as the flower chair person, member of the Bydanho Sunday School Class, active with the Senior Choir and the Women's Service Guild. She was also a member of the Nurses Alumni Association of FMH and was a past president and a member of Frederick Dental Assistants Association. Also a member of the auxiliary to Citizens Nursing Home and the Salvation Army. She was also active with the Business and Professional Women's Club, where she served on the executive board and in many other capacities and was honored as a 50 year member. Ruby enjoyed gardening and working with and planting flowers. Surviving her are three sisters, Myrtle I. Burdette, Mary Louise Willard and Bernice L. Cline, all of Frederick, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by siblings, Fern E. Geisbert, Harry Wilson Roderick, William Harold Roderick and Madelyn Smith. The family of Miss Ruby would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Northampton, for the professional care and love given to her. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 6, 2011, with calling one hour before, at the Frederick Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey, will officiate. The luncheon will follow the service in the church social hall. Interment will follow the luncheon in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Monrovia. Pallbearers will be Richard Cline, James Kelly, David Roderick, Clifford A. Geisbert, Sr., D. Michael Geisbert and Robert Enfield.
