Margaret Ann Thorne

July 2, 1933 — July 1, 2012

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Thorne, nee Moses, of Rohrersville, MD, died Sunday July 1, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of 42 years, to husband Charles R. Thorne, whom she married in 1969. Born July 2, 1933, in Old Washington, Arkansas, now designated an historic state park; she was the daughter of the late Lat and Marguerite Moses. . Peggy was extremely intelligent, sensitive, creative and artistic. She developed a deep love of horses during her adolescence, and rode daily throughout the town and surrounding areas on her ebony black mare, Dixie. Peggy graduated from New Boston High School in Texas in 1951. She had her first and only child Carol Ann in 1956. She moved to Maryland with her husband Rich where she and her husband built a small farm, designing their home, raising Paso Fino horses, growing vegetable gardens, and maintaining an orchard. To continue her love of art she purchased Valley Glass Art, a custom stained glass enterprise from which she commissioned stained glass for many local businesses and homes. In addition to her husband, Peg is survived by one daughter, Carol A. Slensby of Arlington, VA; one brother, Jack S. Moses of Hope, AR; one aunt, Marcia L. McJunkins of Saratoga, AR; one uncle Jay T. McJunkins of Saratoga, AR; two sister-in-laws, Cecelia E. Presnell of Hollywood, Md and Peggy A. Crim of Lexington Park, MD; one brother-in-law William F. Thorne of Edgewater, FL; many loved nieces and nephews and their children; too many dear friends to name; and her animals, miniature poodle CocoPup, her Paso Fino mare Babilonia del Refugio, and Rich's Paso Fino colt Libremente por Contento. Both Peg and her husband Rich were lifelong free thinkers; accordingly neither a formal funeral nor religious service is planned. According to her wishes Peg will be cremated and her ashes will revisit locations special to her during her lifetime. Family and friends will privately gather in September of 2012 to participate in a memorial celebration of her life. For additional information regarding her memorial plans please call 301-432-6524. The Keeney & Basford Funeral Home of Frederick, MD is assisting her family. To send online condolences please visit www.keeneybasford.com In lieu of gifts or flowers, friends and family are asked to remember Peg with their gift to someone in need. Let the sharing of your love be Peg's legacy. The family would like to extend many thanks to the myriad nurses, doctors, and other medical and support staff of Frederick Memorial Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital who helped Peg in her time of need. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Jeffrey Cowen and his wonderful staff for their critical care and support. She lived a life of wonder and beauty, ever intrigued by horses, art, good food, flowers and plants. Friends and family brought her joy, which she warmed, polished and returned magnified abundantly. Strangers were quickly engaged and shown her warmth and interest, soon to be confident friends. She didn't understand human unkindness, for there was no meanness within her heart by which to measure it. Beautiful woman, a good person, and a friend for life. "Beauty, Love, Excellence"
