Bedford A. Dodson of Hyattstown, MD, passed away on December 17, 2012 at Medstar Washington Hospital Center Heart Institute. He was born on March 30, 1936 and was the son of the late Thomas and Gail Dodson. Bedford was a lifetime member at the Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Urbana Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from the City of Rockville and the Montgomery County Ride-On Transit Department as a Mechanic. He worked for the 75-80 drag way for many years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 347 and the Redman's Club of Frederick. He is survived by his best friend Linda. Also surviving are sons Kevin and wife Terri, Daniel and Norman; grandsons, Johnny, Christopher, Danny, Adam, Merl, and Melvin Jr.; special granddaughter Dawn Norris and husband Jack; great grand-daughter Alivea LaFavor and husband Nick and great grandsons, Austin and Gaven Norris. He is survived by special sister Peggy Ray and Hisle Beach and brother Bill Dodson. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Mabel Mullinix and Alberta Belcher and son, Melvin. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8pm on Friday, December 21, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick and on Saturday, December 22, from 10-11am at the Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Department, 25801 Frederick Rd, Clarksburg, MD. The funeral service will begin at 11am at the Fire Department. Janet Reister will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Upper Seneca Baptist Church Cemetery, 23401 Davis Mill Rd., Cedar Grove, MD. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Department a the address above, or to the ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128.
