Emerito Castro Asuncion, of Ijamsville, MD, passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2012 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by family who loved him dearly. Emerito was born in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on December 8th, 1935 to the late Josefa and Juan Asuncion, M.D. He was one of seven children and spent his early years in Manila, Philippines. He attended the University of Santo Thomas where he captained the University's basketball team and received his Bachelor of Science degree in International Banking and Finance from Far Eastern University. After graduation he was employed at the United States Embassy in Manila. Soon after, he moved to the United States and took a position as a computer analyst at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. After twenty-nine years of service, he retired in 1995. Emerito found joy in spending time with his family and closest friends and through his various hobbies including camping, golf, and world travel. He will be remembered for his hard work, quiet strength and dedication to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Emerita Asuncion and his five children, Melissa Asuncion, M.D. and husband J. Chris Acol, M.D., Emerito Asuncion, Jr., M.D. and wife Patricia, Joseph Asuncion, M.D. and wife Kirsten, Frederick Asuncion, D.D.S., and Joanne Asuncion, M.D. and husband Joshua Fleischman, M.D. He is also survived by his three remaining siblings: Hector Asuncion, M.D., Thelma Cannon and Arthur Asuncion. His memories will also be cherished by his eight loving grandchildren: Dominique, Alexandra, Samantha, Jacqueline, Daniel, Sydney, Jordan and Joelle. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church St., Frederick, MD 21701. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5 at 10 AM at Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Rd., Ijamsville, MD 21754. Father Michael J. Jendrek will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, Frederick.
