Carroll Henshaw Hendrickson, Jr., 7431 Willow Road, Homewood, died on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Homewood. His wife, the former Margaret Montgomery Doane, predeceased him in 2003. He was born in Hagerstown, June 27, 1920, the son of the late Carroll Henshaw and Mary Landon Carter Mason Hendrickson. After attending public schools in Frederick, he graduated from Beacon School, Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, and received his B.A. degree from Reed College, Portland, Oregon, in 1942, where he and his wife were classmates. He was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy at the Midshipmen's School at Notre Dame and was engaged in a number of invasions and other naval activity as a watch officer and navigator in the amphibious forces in the Central Pacific during World War II. He remained in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. He was married in Portland, Oregon, November 11, 1944, and in 1946 returned to Frederick, where he helped manage, and later owned the retail store on North Market St. established in 1877 by his grandfather, John D. Hendrickson. Until the liquidation of the store in 1980 he was active in a number of civic organizations, including the original board of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. For a number of years he did volunteer work for the archives of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, the Maryland Historical Society, the Historical Society of Frederick County, and the archives of All Saints' Church, Frederick. He continued his interest in archival and genealogical work following complete retirement. He is a former vestryman, Sunday School teacher, and choir member of All Saints' Episcopal Church. While living at Homewood at Crumland Farms he has done volunteer work for the Health Care Units, participated in a number of Musical activities for the residents, and assisted in promoting the piano recitals of George Fu. He is survived by his children: David Hunt Hendrickson and his wife, Joan, of Frederick; and Alice Montgomery Hendrickson and her husband, Dr. Glen Douglas Lawrence of New York City; and the following grandchildren and great grandchildren: Anna Katherine Jackson, her husband Sam and son, Oliver Hunt Jackson; Robert Riley Chaisson; and Joseph Andrew Chaisson, his wife, Andrea, and their sons Carl and Dante. His daughter Anne Henshaw Hendrickson passed away in 2011. In addition, his brother John David Hendrickson, II, of Ruxton, his wife, Elizabeth, and their family; Virginia Gambrill Hendrickson, wife of his late brother Edwin Mason Hendrickson, and their family; first cousins Louise Hunt Talley, of Frederick, Edwin L'Huillier Mason, Wilmington, DE, the Rev. David Raymond Mason of Cleveland Heights, OH, Camilla Anne Momeyer, of Harrison City, PA, and a number of nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Church on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 11 AM with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
