Thelma Grace Horn

Mrs. Thelma Grace Kinna Horn, 79, of Frederick, and a resident of Homewood for seven years, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Charles David Horn, who died January 8, 1998. Born in Old Braddock on October 6, 1934, Thelma was a daughter of the late Atlee Charles and Gladys Elvira Dixon Kinna. Thelma and Charlie started Horn Electric Service, Inc., in 1958, where she worked as the company bookkeeper and together they ran the business until 1996 when their son took over. Thelma was a graduate of the Frederick High School Class of 1952 and the lunch bunch. She held many National, Regional, State and local offices including President of the Shangri-La Unit of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary Frederick. She carried the National Colors of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary at Arlington National Cemetery, for many years. She was a life member and past Bethel Guardian of Bethel # 28 Job's Daughters and also a member of the Eastern Star. She was past President of the Love, Care and Concern Auxiliary of Vindobona Nursing Home. She also enjoyed participating with the Sunshine Readers of Homewood who helps reading with Monocacy Elementary School. Thelma and Charlie helped to start the Booster Club for the athletics for their children's school, Heritage Academy. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Thelma loved traveling and met her goal of visiting all 50 states as well as many countries. Thelma and Charlie enjoyed skating at Braddock Roller Rink and Starland Roller Rink, where she met Charlie. Thelma won many trophies playing Jeopardy and other trivia games at Homewood. She liked to collect Longaberger baskets and she enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren and also her many friends. Surviving are her three children, Charles A. "Chip" Horn and wife Dawn, of Frederick, Jo Ann Horn Cashman and husband Andy, of New Windsor and April Horn Ausherman and husband Dwayne, of Frederick, four grandchildren, Noah C. Horn, Harmony B. Horn, Drew Cashman and Cody E. Cashman, one sister, Janice Virginia Hicks and husband Bob, of St. Louis, MO, nieces and nephew: Kym Roberson, Jennifer Nordstrom and Jerry Hicks, also surviving are brothers-in-law, Richard Smith and Tom Horn and wife Junia, sisters-in-law, Anna Stup, Ethel Schmidt and Betty College and husband, Durban, and also many other nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by close family friend, Odetta Brown. She was preceded in death by sister, Dolly Mae Smith. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday, October 11, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, October 12, 2013, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Ronald E. Reaves, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Clustered Spires cemetery, Frederick. Pallbearers will be; Noah Horn, Drew Cashman, Cody Cashman, Andy Cashman, Dwayne Ausherman, Bob Roberson, and Philip Roberson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to, Shriners Hospitals for Children International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 ( [email protected] ) or to a charity of ones choice.
