Margaret "Liz" Coffey

March 6, 2000 — January 6, 2014

Miss Margaret Elizabeth "Liz" Coffey, 13, of Ijamsville, died on January 6, 2014 at Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C. Born on March 6, 2000, she was the daughter of James Thomas Coffey, Jr. and Patricia (Stahler) Coffey. Liz was a wise-beyond-her-years, fun and enlightened 8th grader at Urbana Middle School. At heart, she was a dancer, cultivating her love for dance at Elite Feet Dance Studio in Frederick. In addition to dance, Lizzie loved acting and writing, and was very active in her church, Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ. She was taking steps to be confirmed as a member of the congregation this spring. Liz had a special way of touching the life of anyone she was around. Both quirky and witty, she could make anyone's day better... .brighter. Lizzie loved sheep, her pet dogs Opie and Kobie, family vacations, attending "Camp Heartbeat", the beach, offering sage advice, and teaching. It was her dream to become a teacher. She had a unique gift working with children. Lizzie was a true, special light, forever making the world a better and brighter place. The family would like to thank Dr. Jonathan Kaltman and Vicki Freedenberg, Lizzie's cardiologist and nurse, for the special and wonderful care they gave her while she was at Children's Hospital. The family would also like to especially thank Rev. Dr. Barbara Kershner Daniel for her steadfast love and support. In addition to her parents, Liz is survived by her siblings Will Coffey, Quinn Coffey and Paige Coffey, paternal grandparents Jim and Barbara (Main) Coffey and maternal grandmother Peg (Engler) Stahler. She is also survived by aunts and uncles Amy and Noe Bravo, Becky and Brad Ireland, Debbie and John Gohegan, Julie and Jason Davis and Tim Stahler as well as a multitude of cousins, numerous other extended family members and her precious "Lamby". Liz was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, William Stahler. The family will receive friends on January 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A memorial service will be held on January 11 at 11:00 AM at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, 15 West Church Street, Frederick, Rev. Dr. Barbara Kershner Daniel officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, Liz Coffey Scholarship Fund, 15 West Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 or to Brainy Camps, Camp Heartbeat, C/O Sandra Cushner Weinstein, 111 Michigan Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20010.
