Alma Roney Whitehouse passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24th at her home surrounded by her loving family. She had just celebrated her 92nd birthday on June 12, 2014. Alma was the first child of Clyde M. and Olga O. Roney who preceded her in death. She married John Frederick Whitehouse in 1945 and had a long and happy marriage until his death in 1979. They had 5 children: a son John R Whitehouse and his wife Judy, daughters Barbara Agar and her late husband John, Karen Nichols, Judy Conrad and her husband Ralph and another son Rock and his wife Carey. There are eleven grandchildren: Tami Gerity and her husband Mike, Doug Agar and his wife Loretta, Kathy Adams and her husband Jamie, Carol Tromp, John Agar, Jennifer Nichols, Paul Nichols and his wife Erica, Christine Garner and her husband Doug, Michael Conrad, Becky Hall and her husband Adam, Katie Rogers and her husband Brad. She was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Alma was a loving eldest sister to Walter L Roney, Clyde R Roney, Jeanne Lee and Ruth Roney. They were preceded in death by their spouses: John "Jack" Whitehouse, Naomi Roney, Wynne Roney and Dr. J. Moultrie Lee. Born and raised in Frederick and having also lived in Detroit, MI and Westlake, OH, she returned to Frederick in 1981. She was a lifelong member of All Saints Episcopal Church where she was active in the St. Mary's Chapter. She retired from the admissions office at Hood College and filled her time volunteering for the Frederick Memorial Hospital at Select Seconds, The Soroptomist Club, and numerous other local service organizations. Alma loved life especially when spending time with her family, traveling with friends and volunteering to help others. She left very clear and loving instructions for her family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm, on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Keeney Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St. Frederick, MD 21701. A Celebration Of Life service will be held at 11:00AM, on Friday, June 27, 2014 at her beloved All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Interment will be at Mt Olivet and there will be a reception following at All Saints hosted by the St. Mary's Chapter . She requested that no flowers be sent but that donations be made to All Saints at the above address or to the FMH Aux., 400 W. 7th Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
