Frances Simmons

Frances Simmons, 92, of Frederick, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 7, 2014. She was the wife of the late Ralph Arnold Simmons. Born on April 10, 1922, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Harry Milton and Myrtle Burdette Walker Crutchley. She attended North Market Street School and East Church Street School. She worked for many years at Frederick Tailoring-Sagner's Sewing Factory until the close of the factory. She went on to work at Hood College until her retirement in 1992. Frances was of Lutheran faith and was a longtime member at Evangelical Lutheran Church. Since her fall in August of 2010, Frances was living with her daughter Nancy in Woodsboro. After another fall, in October 2013, she became a resident of Northampton Manor Health Care. Frances is survived by two daughters, Frances Annette Dutrow and husband George Calvin Dutrow Sr. of Frederick and Nancy Lee Nash McMillion of Woodsboro; sister, Gloria Victoreen Tobery of Frederick; five grandchildren, Courtney Paul Nash Jr. and wife LouAnn of Libertytown, Bernard Dwayne Nash of Walkersville, Linda Marie Brady and fiancé John Mannix of Woodbine, George Calvin Dutrow Jr. and wife JoAnn of Libertytown, Deborah Annette Dutrow of Frederick; eight great-grandchildren, Robert Paul "Robbie" Nash and wife Kaitlin of Libertytown, Eric Lee Nash and fiancé Mandy Bailey of Libertytown, Michelle Dawn Chavez and husband Ruvin of Eldersburg, Heather Marie Brady and fiancé Quinton Sinnott of Westminster, Kenneth Michael "Kenny" Brady and fiancé Rhiannon Everett of Woodbine, Megan Nicole Brady and friend Ilicia Tibbs of Essex, Brandon Michael Dutrow of Libertytown, Brittany Ann Adkins and husband Steve of Libertytown; three great-great granddaughters, Ciannah Marie Sinnott and Cheyenne Lee Sinnott both of Westminster, Mireya Faith Chavez of Eldersburg; one great-great grandson, Brayden Paul Nash of Libertytown and another due in January of 2015, Carter Michael Brady; nieces, Sonja Roseanna Wood of Frederick, Lynda Hines and husband Ralph of Stephens City, VA, Karen White and husband Robert of Frederick; nephews, Harry Lee Crutchley and wife Alice of Frederick, Gradon Norwood Tobery Jr. and wife Stephanie of PA, Clarence Milton Tobery and wife Susie of Libertytown. Frances is also survived by many more nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Harry Elmer Crutchley; sister-in-laws, Faye Crutchley and Doris Elaine Gilbert and brother-in-laws, Gradon N. Tobery Sr. and James Simmons; her loving aunt, Nannie Mae Himes Lambert; her special cousin, Marion Guy "Snookie" Hines; mother and father-in-law, Chester and Ruth Simmons. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 12, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Robert Driver-Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. The interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons, Courtney Nash Jr., Dwayne Nash, George Dutrow Jr., Robbie Nash, Eric Nash, Kenny Brady and Brandon Dutrow. The family would like to express our gratitude for all the support, kindness and care that was given to our mother by her neighbors and friends, over the past years. The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Northampton for their care and support during Frances residency.
