Charles Louis Whirley Jr., 82, of New Market, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of 48 years to Letteria "Lily" (Scipilliti) Whirley. Born on May 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Charles Louis and Mary Jane (Divel) Whirley Sr. Charles served 18 years in the United States Army, 4 years in active duty and 14 years in the reserves as a Master Sargent and Green Beret. Charles worked as a police officer for the Montgomery County Police Department and for the City of Rockville as an Inspector before becoming a superintendent of road construction for F. O. Day and later for Concrete General. He worked for Montgomery County Public Schools as a bus driver until finally working his most important and favorite job, as a Frederick County Schools Crossing Guard. In addition to his wife he is survived by his four children, Tina Luparello, Dare J. Baker and husband Douglas, Joseph T. Luparello and wife Rocio, and Anna M. Abel and husband Lester III; his two sisters, Juanita Culbertson and Deborah Henley; his six grandchildren, Chad and Christopher Bellison, Scott Baker, Daren Lucas, Amanda and Maddie Abel. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Cameron Bellison, Tristen and Lane Baker, Max and Shealyn Chumbris and Piper Lucas; his very close friend, Elisa Martinez, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sara Bellison and brother, James Whirley. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 12th at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in the Mount Olivet Mausoleum.
