Patricia Murphy Rollins

January 6, 1934 — March 9, 2015

Patricia Murphy Rollins, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 9, 2015. She died at Frederick Memorial Hospital, courageously and without complaint, after battling many medical problems over many years. At her death she was surrounded by loved ones. Pat was known and loved by many, especially her large family. Pat (also known as Patsy, Mama, Mom, Mammaw and "The International Treasure") was born on January 6th 1934 in Montgomery County, MD to Helen Gertrude Barnes and Bernard Cuneen Murphy. She grew up in Montgomery County and married Frank Ashby Rollins at age 17. Together, they had and raised five children, and the family eventually grew to include sons- and daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren and twelve great- grandchildren (with two more on the way). Her children and their families were her life's work and pleasure. She loved children and couldn't walk by a baby without stopping to appreciate and smile at the child. She was a kind-hearted woman who cherished her whole family. She very rarely missed anything that involved a family member, attending functions, games, celebrations. She was genuine and funny and had twinkling blue eyes that could light up any room. Pat's faith was of great importance to her. She loved Jesus and relied on Him in all things. She was a member of FaithPoint United Methodist Church in Urbana. She had many hobbies and enjoyed games of any sort. She played poker and bingo regularly. She spent years on a bowling league in Mt. Airy, and once that became too much for her, she took up Wii bowling instead. You would often hear her humming to herself as she did the things she enjoyed; from playing scrabble to yard sales. She was a woman on the move and never cared much for sitting still. Recently, she moved from her home in Ijamsville to live with her daughter Gloria and son-in-law Ralph in Damascus. Gloria and Pat cleaned houses together for over 30 years. They were inseparable and Gloria did an amazing job seeing that "Mama's" last days were spent doing the things she loved. Patsy had over 20 surgeries and was a cancer survivor. Doctors often commented on her good attitude. Pat fought hard for her life, and she lived one of beautiful integrity and inspiring character, She is survived by five children; Gary Rollins (Gloria), Connie Hicks (Gary), Gloria Mullinix (Ralph), Patrick Rollins (Pam), and Jeffery Rollins (Joanne). Also, ten grandchildren: Jeremy Appleby (Brandi), Shannon Hicks, Aleen Tindor (Josiah), Becky Clark (Simon), Matt Johnson, Nicki Conlon (Drew), Shane Rollins (Rachel), Ashby Rollins (Dina), Chelsea Rollins, Kierstin Rollins and Meghan Rollins. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Izaiah, Mimi and Noah Johnson; Ramaira and "Little Man" Hicks, Caleb, Samuel and Abigail Tindor, Sadie Conlon, Cameron Rollins, Eden Rollins and Avery Appleby, as well as two more babies on the way. She is also survived by sister-in-law Thelma Murphy, many nieces and nephews, and cousin Joan Emelli. Pat was predeceased by her husband, her mother and father, brothers Bernard "Bootsy" Murphy and Maurice J. Murphy, and sister Peggy Murphy. Viewings will be held on Thursday, March 12 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702; also on Friday, March 13 from 10:00-11:00am, immediately prior to the funeral. The funeral will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., also at Brook Hill Church. Rev. Chris Bishop will officiate. After interment at Brook Hill Cemetery, food and fellowship will be offered at Brook Hill's Life Activities Center. In lieu of flowers please send donations to www.worldvision.org.
