Winslow Forthman Burhans, Jr. of New Market passed away peacefully on February 6th with his family by his side. He was born on November 8, 1941, in Hagerstown. He was the son of former Hagerstown Mayor Winslow F. Burhans, Sr. and Jeanette Burhans. He was preceded in death by his older brother George M. Burhans. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Jean Burhans, son Winslow F. Burhans, III and his wife Kate of New Market and grandchildren Kai and Hannah Burhans and Maxwell and Nicholas Krepps.
Winslow was a well-known cabinetmaker and charter member of the Rotary Club of Fredericktowne and Paul Harris Fellow. He was a dedicated father and grandfather sponsoring little league and men’s league softball. He was involved in scouting and Soap Box Derby. He attended and traveled for all his grandchildren’s games and made sure there was always coffee and Bailey’s at early morning soccer matches.
He had a bellicose laugh, sly sense of humor and a generous heart. He will be missed greatly.
A viewing will held from 4-7 on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes P.A., 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday at the New Market United Methodist. Interment will follow at New Market Cemetery.
