William Maurice Downs

William Maurice "Morris" Downs, 72, peacefully passed away on November 29, 2019 at his home in Germantown, Maryland after a valiant battle with Cancer.   Morris was born November 24, 1947 to William and Lelia Downs in Gaithersburg, Md. He grew up in Montgomery County and attended Magruder High School. In 1981 he met Sandi and married in 1983.   Morris is predeceased by his parents, Leila and William, his sister, Phyllis Davis, brother in law Roger Masters and mother in law Clara Kanode. He is survived by his wife, Sandi; his son, Michael, his sisters, Betty McBride and Barbara Masters; sister in laws Cindy and Ardele Kanode and brother in laws Wilbur “Mac” McBride, Robert Davis Sr., Steve and Gerry Kanode. Morris was blessed with granddaughters, Ryleigh and Isabella and many nieces and nephews.   Morris loved meeting people and making new friends. His smile and laughter was contagious and would always go out of his way if someone needed help. He was considered the “Mayor” of the neighborhood by some. Morris was an expert residential and business Painter and loved what he did. He enjoyed fishing and sitting on a pier under an umbrella eating crabs and listening to “Oldies” stations.   The family will receive friends from 1pm to 3pm, on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.  The memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00PM.  Pastor Katy Mossburg will officiate.  Inurnment will be private.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown United Methodist Church, Thurmont, MD., or the American Cancer Association or Montgomery Hospice.
