William Emory Cecil, Sr.

November 22, 1928 — March 4, 2020

William Emory Cecil, Sr., 91, of Frederick, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at the Ballenger Creek Center in Frederick. He was the husband of the late Kathleen Andrews Cecil, who predeceased him in 2014. Born on Jefferson Street in Frederick on November 22, 1928, he was a son of the late Talmadge Noble and Vernice Geesey Cecil. Mr. Cecil had worked many years in the Frederick area as a farmer and was retired from the City of Frederick. He was known as the "Bird Man of Mountaindale" with his menagerie of peacocks, pheasants, turkeys, raccoons, and other small animals. He would invite families and schools to visit. He was briefly a member of the United Fire Company #3. Surviving is a son, William E. Cecil, Jr. and wife Malinda of Salisbury, Md.; grandchildren: Jessica Cecil (Rob Layfield), Christopher Moser, Jacob Cecil (Whitney), Eli Cecil (Jacqueline Glass), and Caitlin LaComb (Mikey); great grandchildren: Ezra, Alex, Branch, and Maeve; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Lynn Moser Jordan, his brother Talmadge Cecil, Jr, and his sister Ruby Crist. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., on Monday, March 9, 2020, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P. O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
