Wilbur F. Mcbride

Wilbur F. McBride, Jr., age 85, of Thurmont, MD passed peacefully at home with family and went to  be with Our Lord. Wilbur was born in Frederick, MD and is the son of the late Wilbur F. McBride, Sr. and Millicent E. Jones - McBride.

Wilbur is a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1956. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy where he served honorably until his discharge in 1962. While in the Navy, he  met his loving wife  of 65 years, Mary E. Downs - McBride. They were married in 1958.

He worked for a time at Bowers Lumber building homes and then was employed by Safeway as a Meat Cutter and retired from there after more than 37 years. Wilbur also worked as a professional wedding photographer.

Wilbur enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid card player. He was a stone mason and put all of the stone work around his home. He always enjoyed listening to country music. Family and friendship were major parts of his everyday life.

In addition to his wife, Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Susan E. Mitchell (Neil) of Tennessee, his son, Alan F. McBride, his granddaughter, Sarah E. Frederick. Wilbur is predeceased by his daughter, Mary Ann McBride, brother Pete McBride, sisters Arlene Fox and Mary McBride.

Family will receive friends at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 E. Church St. on Thursday, August, 31, 2023 from 1 - 4 P.M. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 1, 2023 beginning at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Those desiring expressions of sympathy are invited to make a contribution to a Veteran's charity of your choosing.
