Dr. Tu "Peter" Thanh Bui

Dr. Tu “Peter” Thanh Bui, 53, of Frederick, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Monday May 27, 2024, at Frederick Health Hospital. Born in Vietnam to Uy and Hoa Bui, he was the beloved partner to Kari Jo Hassler.

Peter graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1998. After graduation he travelled the US where he found an opportunity to help underserved on Native American reservations in the Southwest.   In 2001, having settled in Maryland for work, he met his soon-to-be medical practice partner. Together they would start Hagerstown Family Medicine with the aim of providing compassionate care for their patients. Peter enjoyed working directly with his patients and would still make the occasional house call.

Peter was an avid Kansas Jayhawks and Boston Celtics fan. He enjoyed reading, traveling, blackjack, slot machines and barbecue. A foodie at heart, he sought out new restaurants and was often found spoiling their fur kids with a great bone-in-ribeye while grilling and listening to the Beatles and coffee house rock music. Recently, though reluctantly, he became an avid composter. Last but not least, he enjoyed a good, long nap.

In addition to his partner and parents, he is survived by siblings Kim Bui, Tung Bui, and Tam Bui, he is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members. He is predeceased by his brothers Quyen Bui and Quan Bui.

At the family's request, all services will be held privately and by invitation only.
