Susan Corbin

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Susan May (Haley) Corbin, of Lake Linganore on March 24, 2025 at the age of 80. Known to many as “Mama Sue,” she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished friend.

Susan was born on January 4, 1945 to Joseph “Cy” and Edith (Stouter) Haley of Emmitsburg, MD. A strong, dedicated woman, she always thought of others—ensuring everyone had food, company, and a sense of belonging. Her unwavering love for her family and friends was at the heart of everything she did.

Susan graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Emmitsburg. After graduation she worked for the F.B.I. in Washington, DC. Later, Susan was proud of being one of the first six women to wear a uniform for the Maryland State Police as a police dispatcher. Susan also earned an associates degree from Frederick Community College and a bachelors of science degree in accounting from Mount St. Mary’s College.

Susan began the biggest and most important career of all when she married the love of her life, Maryland State Police Lt. Col. W.W. "Speedy" Corbin and began a family. They were married for thirty nine years before his passing in 2006 and there was never a day after that she did not speak about her husband. Their love and bond remained a guiding force in her life, and she carried his memory with her always.

Mama Sue is survived by her daughter, Dr. Laura Corbin Frazier, a professor at Mount St. Mary’s University and her husband TJ as well as their two children, Haley and Reagan. Her son, Capt. Eric G. Corbin of the Maryland State Police, his wife Laura, and their three children Eleanor, Woodrow and Caledonia.

Susan is additionally survived by her brothers John G. Haley, Gerald M. Haley and wife Jody, as well as her sister, Rebecca M. Stover. She is also survived by her niece, Josephine Adams. She was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as her eldest brother Joseph Patrick Haley, his wife Mary and their son Joseph.

Susan was a lifetime member of the Maryland State Police Alumni Association.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at the Key Memorial Chapel (front of old section) located on the grounds of Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market St., Frederick, MD 21701 with interment to follow in the cemetery. Immediately after a reception will be held at Dutch's Daughter, 581 Himes Ave., Frederick, MD 21703.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, March 31, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick MD 21701.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Maryland Troopers’ Association Lodge 51 care of the Frederick Barracks, 110 Airport Drive East, Frederick, MD 21701.

The family expresses deep gratitude for the love, support, and comfort provided by friends and family during this difficult time.  Mama Sue will be deeply missed but will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved
