Roscoe Hedges Crone, a lifelong resident of Frederick County, Maryland passed away at the age of 94 on August 4, 2024, at Somerford House in Frederick, MD. Born in Frederick on February 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Cecil Earl Crone and Martha Main Crone.
Growing up on a farm, Roscoe developed a knack for problem-solving and a strong work ethic that defined his life. A proud veteran of the Korean War, he carried his values of dedication and service throughout his career and personal life. After serving his country, Roscoe worked at Fort Detrick and the National Bureau of Standards. In retirement, he found joy in his role as a bus driver for Frederick County Public Schools, where he was known for his kindness and reliability.
Roscoe was a long-time member of Braddock Lutheran Church and was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ethel Bell Crone, in 2020, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Together, they raised two sons in Frederick, instilling in them the values of honesty and hard work. Roscoe and Ethel enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States, creating many memories along the way.
He is survived by his two sons, R. Michael Crone and wife Pam of Jefferson, MD, and Daniel D. Crone and wife Julie of Braddock Heights, MD. Roscoe also leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren: Emily Mooney and husband Kyle, Paul Crone and wife Jill, Tyler Crone and wife Tristen, and Michele Gregg and husband Kenan. He was the proud great-grandfather to Stella Mooney, Wade Mooney, Adeline Crone, Johanna Crone, and Jack Crone.
Roscoe will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his ability to fix anything, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Somerford House and Frederick Health Hospice for their loving care provided to Roscoe.
Family and friends can gather at the Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, 515 South Market Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Monday August 12, 2024 from 10am until the start of the funeral service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Roscoe’s name to Frederick Health Hospice.
