Robert Lee Strine, 92 years-old was born on November 30, 1929. He left this world on September 6, 2022. He was the son of Ivan C. Strine and Ruth Millicent Strine. He was the husband of Margaret Strine for 71 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother David and sisters, Jean, Martha and Ann. He is survived by two nieces, which he and his wife raised, Nancy and Donna Norwood. He also leaves special nephews and nieces, Tony and Patricia Norwood, Katie and Jason Naylor and Kellie and Andy Putman. He will never see the following children grow up, which he considered his great, great grandchildren: Hunter, Gage, Makenzie and Izabella Putman, and Connor, Logan, Keegan and Breann Naylor. Special friends left behind are Harry Sanders and Gloria Frances.
Bob proudly served his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict serving with the 71st Infantry Division, the 33rd Regiment Combat, the 196th Regiment Combat Team and the 3rd Armored Division of the U.S. Army. He also served in the Army Reserve, the 7th Battalion of the State Guard and, the MD National Guard as an Operation Officer with the 3rd Brigade. 29th Division. He retired with 23 years military service with rank of Captain.
Bob was employed by the City of Frederick for 43 years. Eleven years with the Engineering Dept. and 32 years with the Public Works Dept. He retired in 1992 as Director of the Public Works Dept. Bob was a member of the Last Man’s Club, 29th Division Assoc., the Cresap Rifle Assoc. #78, and the Elks Club #684.
Bob loved golfing, hunting, and traveling with his wife Peggy. They visited all 50 states and many countries overseas.
The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, September 23, 2022, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Pine Grove Cemetery, 737 S. Main Street, Mount Airy, MD.
