Frederick, MD~ Robert J. Ailes, MD, age 85, died of natural causes on June 28th, 2023 at Kline Hospice House.
He was born on December 20th, 1937 in Warren, OH to Robert Eugene Ailes and Donna Marie (Cunningham, Ailes) Urban.
Robert graduated from Oberlin College in 1960 with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Biology. He went on to earn his doctorate from Case Western Reserve University in 1964. Robert was Active-Duty Medical Director /Lieutenant in the United States Navy from 1965-1968. He also served as the nuclear, biological and chemical warfare defense officer for the Hawaiian Islands.
His successful career consisted of years in Private Family Practice, served as the Medical Director for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida and Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Blue Cross / Blue Shield of New Jersey.
He was also self employed for many years as a consultant in health care cost and quality management before becoming a successful business owner consisting of 4 locations in Colorado and Utah.
Robert married his sweatheart, Patricia Anne (Foltz, Maruskin) on June 7th, 1986. Together they have 5 Children: Kevin (Andrea) Maruskin, Christine Ailes (Sean) Pribanic, Kristen Maruskin (Mike Byrnes), Catherine Ailes, and Susan Ailes (Todd) Manley. They have 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eugene Ailes and stepmother Mae. His mother, Donna Marie Urban and stepfather, Joseph Urban, and his brother, Roger Eugene Ailes and sister Donna Jeanne Ailes.
Robert was a loving husband and father who adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had an amazing sense of humor and kept his family laughing. In medical practice, he was a respected physician and a brilliant diagnostician. His patients valued his ability to treat them with respect and communicate with them on a relatable level.
Friends and Family are welcome to join us for the viewing from 10:00 to 11:00am on Saturday, July 1st at Keeney & Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD.
A service of remembrance will be held immediately after at 11:00am.
His military service will be honored graveside at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick following the service .
