Richard Francis Pearl, Sr.

Richard Francis Pearl, Sr., 81, of Jefferson, passed unexpectedly on Sunday April 30, 2023. Born in Brunswick, MD, to the late John F. and Geraldine L. (Woods) Pearl. He was the beloved husband to the late JoAnn Pearl.

Richard played in Brunswick’s first little league baseball in the 1950s. He would go on later to coach little league baseball as well as Junior league football. He was also a member of the Frederick Eagles Club, the Williamsport Red Men Lodge, and the Frederick Moose Club. In his spare time, he would raise hogs.

Richard was a loving family man who deeply cherished all members of his family. In Richard’s younger years, he would take his wife dancing every Saturday night and was a great dancer. He enjoyed watching his grandson Douglas play baseball through his years from little league to college. He also enjoyed watching his grandson Dalton wrestle from a young age through college. He loved spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Richard is survived by, his children; Laurie Gourley-Benfield (Christopher) and Rick F. Pearl, Jr. (Jennifer), his grandchildren; Megan Gourley, Matthew Gourley, Douglas Pearl, Dalton Pearl and Dargan Bladen (raised by Jennifer and Rick after the passing of her father), his great-granddaughter Aspen Pearl Gourley,  and his companion Carol. In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his adoptive brother Lloyd Cooper.

Family and friends can gather at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Wednesday May 3, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm. A second visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday May 4, 2023 from 1pm until the start of the funeral service at 2pm. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
