Peter C. Luchsinger Md

March 25, 1926 — September 15, 2022

In loving memory of Peter C. Luchsinger MD--
Peter came from Zurich, Switzerland to the U.S. intending to stay for one post-grad year in 1955 but stayed for the rest of his life which ended at home on September 15, dying at 96 of old age. At home in Urbana, he was very happily married for 52 years to Barbara LaGarde Luchsinger.

Following a notable career in respiratory research medicine at the University of Georgetown and Johns Hopkins medical schools and their associated hospitals, and having over one hundred research papers published, he and Barbara lived in the Zurich area in the 1970s to manage family businesses after the death of Peter’s father.

Returning to the U.S. they settled on Barbara’s family property, where they managed a small Christmas tree operation and reforested a significant portion of the property. They also planted many Black Walnuts, aided by membership in the Walnut Council, all of which earned the farm “Tree Farm of the Year for Frederick County” in 2009.

Despite being noted by all the family for the devoted love of his precious lawn, Peter surely loved watching his family grow up and evolve into the third generation on the property. A cultured European-schooled gentleman, he loved his family, classical music, the arts for which his ancestors were noted art collectors, riding his tractor on the property, Johnny Walker Red, good wine, and endlessly fretting over his lawn. A man of many talents, Peter exhibited skill and knowledge in engineering, investment, and architecture which earned him membership in the Cosmos Club. Determined to try to provide for living off the grid, he was an early proponent and owner of solar power.

In addition to Barbara, he is survived by daughter Andrea Luchsinger Morton and son-in-law Gary, son Fred Luchsinger and daughter-in-law Marisa, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Honoring Peter’s wish, the family will receive friends and family at Monocacy Crossing Restaurant, 4424A Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD 21704, Sunday, October 9, from 11-1. It is requested that any expressions of sympathy be made at Wounded Warrior Project.
