Pauline Elizabeth Hoffman, 100, of Frederick, Maryland, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Frederick Health Hospital. Born on February 3, 1925 in Libertytown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Harrison John Dixon and the late Mary May Morgan Dixon. She was married to William Nelson Hoffman for 55 years prior to his death on May 21, 2001.
Pauline was raised on her parents’ dairy farm in Union Bridge, Maryland where, alongside her siblings, she enjoyed much mischief and often regaled her family with stories of her happy childhood. Pauline graduated from Liberty High School in 1943. She loved to dance to the tunes of big bands and attended numerous dances held at dance halls all around the area and as far away as Atlantic City, New Jersey. She loved many genres of music and performers, but, had a special affinity for Dean Martin, Perry Como, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. After a lengthy courtship during his service in World War II, she married her husband on March 7, 1946 at The Glade United Church of Christ in Walkersville, Maryland following his discharge from the Army in January of that same year. For most of her life, she reveled in being a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. She loved to cook and bake for her family and anyone who unexpectedly dropped by the house. Up until the last year-and-a-half, she continued to cook Sunday dinners and serve at 1:00 P.M. Her cookie jar was ALWAYS full of chocolate chip cookies, a favorite of her family. For a long time, she attended Thursday luncheons at Ballenger Hall in Feagaville. She cherished the memories of special occasions, especially her 50th wedding anniversary celebration in March 1996 as well as the recent memories of her 100th birthday celebration on February 2, 2025. In recent years, she enjoyed reading, completing find-a-word puzzles, watching TV (especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy), talking on the phone with family & friends, visiting with family & friends, driving around the countryside on a Sunday/day trips and dining at Dutch’s Daughter (oyster sandwiches were her favorite). When asked to what she attributed her longevity, she replied with coffee, ice cream, lots of good food, red lipstick, surrounding herself with family and friends and living an honest, happy life with lots of smiles and laughter.
