Oneida “Nita” Lavinia Hollinger, of Frederick, MD, died peacefully at the Kline Hospice House on May 31, 2022. She was born in New Windsor, MD on August 3, 1935 to the late Cecil Rakes and Helen Hinman. She spent her childhood in New, Windsor, MD and graduated from New Windsor High in 1953, where she was referred to as a “social butterfly.” She met the love of her life, the late Harold Hollinger, while skating at the Rainbow Roller Rink. They married on July 17, 1954 and settled in Frederick, MD where together, they raised their family.
Nita spent the early years of her married life devoted as a wife and mother. Among the fond memories the family has of times spent together, are the numerous gatherings their mom hosted where the food was abundant and they could enjoy time together in a warm and comfortable setting. Once her children became of school age, Nita worked in retail at the Fredericktowne Mall. She also studied with Harry Richardson and developed her artistic talents. Nita Learned how to quilt and made quilts, many of which she gave as gifts. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. As she advanced in age, she became very fond of animals.
She is survived by her son Ronald Hollinger and his partner Joyce; daughter Diana Burdette and husband Lee; daughter Peggy Brunner and husband Steve; daughter Sandy Redman and husband Kirk; daughter Barby Clark and husband Jeff; daughter-in-law Robin Hollinger; sister Ruthanna Bohn and brother, Samuel Rakes. She was preceded in death by her son Michael Hollinger and brother Alton Rakes. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Jamie Burdette, Laura Ritchie, Brian Burdette, Daniel Burdette, Dustin Hollinger, Brooke Hollinger, Ashley Barnette, Danielle Britt, Amanda Keith, John Malligo, Katelyn Redman, Bradley Clark and Sarah Clark. She also has many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. Nita was blessed to have a devoted friend Cheryl Burkett, a “visiting angel” who brought sunshine into her life.
The funeral will be private at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD.
