On November 3, 2023, Norman Edgar "Boots" Abrecht, Jr. went home to his Lord, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Frederick Maryland on June 30, 1946 and is the son of Norman and Charlotte (Droneburg) Abrecht.
He graduated from Frederick High School in 1964 where he played football, ran track, and was a member of the golf team. While in high school, Norman served in the Civil Air Patrol.
After he graduated from high school he began working as a Lab Tech at NIH where he met his wife of 54 years, Temple Markoe-Abrecht. He later worked at Fort Detrick where he was afforded the opportunity to travel to Fairbanks, Alaska. After working at Fort Detrick, he accepted a position as a clerk with the United States Post Office at the Frederick Branch. He also trained hearing impaired individuals for employment at USPS. After 40 years, he retired from the post office and worked for Ideal Buick driving the courtesy shuttle.
Norman loved going to Ocean City, MD every year for his birthday, gardening, watching football and golf. Norman had a passion for Mustangs and was especially proud of his 1964 white mustang. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandsons. He was a lifelong member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren where he previously served as a deacon and participated in bible studies.
In addition to his loving wife, Norman is survived by his son Chad Abrecht, daughter Holly Franz (Eric), grandsons Wyatt and Owen Franz, his sister Jacqueline Matthews (Ron) of Drums, PA, his half sister Laverna Troxell of Laurel, MD, his brother-in-law Gary Markoe (Roxane) and multiple nieces and nephews. Norman is predeceased by his parents and his sister Patricia Foster.
The family will receive friends at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will be at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue on Saturday, November 11 at 11am. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
