Norene Adele Boswell

September 15, 1943 — February 26, 2024

Norene Adele Boswell, nee Zavalney, age 80, of Spring Arbor and previously Walkersville, MD passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 after a three-years long struggle with late-stage cancer.

Norene was born September 15, 1943 in Parshall, North Dakota, daughter of Edgar and Thelma (nee Trihub) Zavalney. The youngest of seven siblings, she was raised on a farmstead in the Parshall/Plaza area where her parents owned the restaurant Pass Time Bar in Plaza and Ed's Canvas and Leather Goods Repair Shop in Parshall, also during summer the family ran a concession stand and rented boats at the lake.

Norene’s lifelong love affair with horses began after her father got Norene her first horse, Peanuts. Her parents were born in America to Ukrainian immigrants, and Norene was particularly close to her mother who was a notable cook, baker and gardener. Norene was a devoted mother to her three sons, Todd, Bryan and Corey. She was a cub scout Den Mother and never missed a sporting event for her boys and grandkids. Her great joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and her dear friends of over fifty years, Pam and Jolene, cracking crabs and eating homemade banana cream pie.

Norene was a gifted artist in her younger years, enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, playing guitar and singing with the Golden Tones choir after retiring from Hughes Network in Gaithersburg, MD.

Norene is survived by her sons Todd and his wife Lisa of Cove Creek, AZ, Bryan and his wife Callie of Myersville, MD, Corey and his wife Kristen of Chandler, AZ; seven grandchildren:
Alexia, Jordan, Ryan, Regan, Ryann, Adelaide and Nicholas. She is also survived by her sisters Mavis Case, Marvel Johnson, Janice Carlson, and her sister-in-law Joan, her special niece Sherry Pike (John) and many nephews and nieces across the country. Norene was predeceased by her parents, her brother Ervin and twin brothers Bud and Ted Zavalney.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hegazi and his staff member Kim, the staff at Spring Arbor, the staff of Frederick Health Hospice especially her dedicated nurse Laura, and Pastor Dave who has offered Norene and her immediate family ongoing comfort.

Friends will be received for a Funeral Service at 1:00PM on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1415 West 7th Street, Frederick, MD 21702 directly followed by a Bereavement Luncheon.
