Mary Margaret Lindeman (nee Field), aka Margie/Mom/Nanny, 72 or 73), of Frederick. Maryland, died on March 8, 2023, at home in Frederick, Maryland. Margie was born on March 13, 1951 in Denver, Colorado, to the late Milton Joseph Field and Mary Frances Field. She was the beloved wife of William (Bill) Oakes Lindeman.
Margie is survived by and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Nate Lowe and wife Julie of Falls Church, VA, and Robert Lowe and partner Alexis Moffitt of Richmond, VA; one sister, Paula Garber and partner Richard Klem of Asheville, NC; one brother, Tim Field and wife Michelle of Burnsville, NC; one step-sister, Nancy Billingham and husband Jim of DesPeres, MO; and one step-brother, Steve Jenkins and wife Linda of Cedar Rapids, IA; five grandchildren, Robert, Mikayla, Caroline, James, and Brian (with one granddaughter on the way); numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; one uncle and aunt, Jerry Tietge and wife Carol of Merritt Island, FL; and her cat, Daisy. Margie was preceded in death by her father, Milt Field, step-father, Bob Jenkins, and mother, Mary Frances Jenkins.
Margie graduated from Washington-Lee High School in 1969. She earned a BA degree from Northern Virginia Community College. Margie married John Lowe on May 11, 1975,ending in divorce in 1986. They had two boys, Nate in 1979 and Robert in 1981. Margie’s first husband, John Robert Lowe and his wife, Alicia Lowe, raised Nate and Robert, along with their step-brother Fernando Hevia and half-sister, Veronica Lowe in Falls Church, Virginia.
Margie’s career was varied. She was a go-go dancer at various Army clubs; a gym instructor; a Fairfax County, VA school bus driver; secretary for MITRE Corp; Dept. of Army civilian secretary at Patch Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany (1987-2000); and legal secretary for Janice B. Rockwell, LLC from 2002 to 2023.
In 1986 Margie and Bill Lindeman left for Stuttgart, Germany, where they spent 14 wonderful years. They married on Septober 31, 1988 (September 30 civil ceremony at the Rathaus & October 1 church ceremony in a castle, Schloss Weitenberg in Starzach, Germany).
Margie volunteered as secretary for the Army Community Service at Patch Barracks, Vaihingen, Germany; keyboardist for the Episcopal congregation and Saint Catherine’s Church in Vaihinge and , Germany; President of the American Legion Auxiliary in Vaihingen, Germany; Secretary of the Patch Ski Club in Vaihingen, Germany; assistant to Lay Eucharistic Minister for All Saints Episcopal Church, Frederick, Maryland; and volunteer for the Strong Tower Church in Frederick, Maryland’s food distribution program during the pandemic.
Margie’s hobbies included reading, writing poetry, piano playing, scuba diving in Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands and Hawaii, traveling in Europe to Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Poland, England, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, and France, skiing in the Alps, Dolomites, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Germany, and attending classic car shows.
Above all, Margie loved family and cats. Margie loved Bill, family, true friends, kitties, AA, Schubert’s Ave Maria sung by a good tenor, the sound of children laughing, chocolate, roses, and classic cars. She disliked false friends, gossips, kale, pepper, rap music, lilies and the color green,
Her favorite quote was, “I’m allergic to alcohol – it makes me break out in handcuffs!” She was a FRIEND OF BILL’S since June 26, 2005.
Friends remember her sense of humor, her dry wit, her love for her precious animals and her deep compassion. She was a bright light to many and will be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 West Church Street, Frederick, MD, Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ASPCA or Frederick County Humane Society.
