Mrs. Mary Helen (Marshall) Staley, died on March 11, 2025 at 93 years of age in Williamsport, Maryland.
Born May 26, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas William Marshall and Helen Marie (Slotke) Marshall. After high school she graduated from the Peabody Preparatory Department as a voice student in 1951. She graduated from the College of Nursing of the University of Maryland in 1954 and earned a masters degree in Psychology from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland in 1978. In addition to several years work at Shepherd-Pratt Hospital in Towson, Maryland and at Occupational Services in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, she directed the health services at the Mont Alto Campus of the Pennsylvania State University in Mont Alto, Pennsylvania for 22 years.
She and her late husband, Bronson Staley, were married in 1954, and were residents in Cascade, Maryland from 1967 to 2016. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothea Loser of Gapland, Maryland, a son, Theodore Staley of Cary, NC, a granddaughter, Christina Loser of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, a sister, Anita Wheeler of Mason, Ohio, three nieces and three nephews, several great nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Donna Marshall of Timonium, MD, and predeceased by a brother, Russell Marshall of Timonium, Maryland.
Mrs. Staley was a faithful member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania for 48 years where she sang in the choir, taught adult church school classes, served on Consistory and various committees. After moving to Homewood Retirement Community, in Williamsport, she became a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, Hagerstown, Maryland and was a choir member, Consistory member and Secretary. She was an active volunteer of the Waynesboro Chapter of the American Red Cross where she taught CPR and First Aid classes and served on the Board of Directors including a term as Secretary and Chairperson. She served as Secretary for the Waynesboro Area Fellowship of Churches. She served as Recording Secretary for the Homewood at Williamsport Auxiliary for 12 years and a term as President. She was a participating member of the American College Health Association and the American Nurses Association.
The family will receive friends from 12PM to 1PM, on Monday, March 17, 2025 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will follow at 1PM. Inurnment will be private.
