Mary Beulah Garman

Mary B. Johnson Yunge Garman, longtime resident of Frederick passed on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the age of 99. She was a true southern belle born in Atlanta; preceded in death by her husband J.T. Garman in 2001, parents, step-father, sister, and grandson John. Mary and J.T. Garman planted family roots in Frederick in 1947, where they raised their children: Rita Marie (Howard) of Colorado; James Garman (Paula) of Thurmont; and George Garman (Kathy Rohrer) of Frederick. Her grandchildren gave her a great sense of pride: Kevin Stup, Colorado; Jay Stup, Colorado; Brian Stup, California; Christopher Garman, West Virginia; Jason Garman and Justin Garman of Frederick. Mary had 12 great grandchildren. Mary began her career in the business offices of Sears Roebuck in Atlanta. She and husband J.T. operated Garman Texaco on Seventh Street where Mary was the bookkeeper and financial manager. She remembered the Great Depression well and spoke of it often. In her younger years she and her friends participated in Frederick Homemakers. She was the last surviving member of her peer group. We thank God for a wonderful mother and friend. We are deeply saddened by Mary’s passing and will miss her sensitive and caring soul, creativity, and loving relationships. The family is appreciative of the kindness and caring acts provided to their mother by close neighbors and friends over many years. Mary was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren. Her family wishes to thank the staff at FMH 3A and also Kline Hospice House, for their compassionate care and support to the family and our mother. Memorial donations may be made to her church ( 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, MD 21701) or to Hospice of Frederick County, P. O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702. Burial will be with her departed husband in the Rocky Springs Cemetery and family services will be private. Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home.
