Mary Elizabeth Smith

Mary Elizabeth Braskey Smith, 88, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 26, 2024. She was born in Nikep, Maryland and was the daughter of late Helen Staup and Leslie Staup.

Mary was employed in accounts payable at Bon Ton for many years before retiring to take care of her three grandchildren. She also worked for the Board of Elections as an election Judge for more than 40 years. Mary enjoyed going to the school helping set up her daughter's classroom. She was an active baseball Mom/Grandma attending games to watch her son and grandsons. She was an avid collector of Hallmark ornaments, Possible Dream Santas, Pez, Longaberger Baskets and many other collectibles.

Mary is survived by her daughter Tracie Sampsell (Doug), her son Brian Smith "Smitty" (Fiancée Sherrie), grandsons Beau A. Smith (Maddy), Brian A. Smith, DJ Sampsell, great grandson Liam Smith, sister Bobbie Duncan, brother Michael Staup and niece Heather Hildebrand (Chad). Mary is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Gordon "Gordie" H. Smith and her brother-in-law Keith Duncan.

The family will receive friends at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD on Monday, July 1, 2024 from, 4 to 7 pm. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 11 am. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
