After 5 years of valiantly fighting stage 4 cancer, Maria Victoria Gloria Ferrer-Dubitsky passed away on December 24, 2020. "Bing", as she was known to family and friends, was born in Quezon City, Philippines to Jose & Pilar Ferrer. After graduation from the University of the Philippines, Bing immigrated to the United States and become a United Nations guide in New York City, where she met her future husband Anthony Dubitsky. They married on April 24, 1971. They have one daughter, Melissa. Bing worked in development and fundraising for various nonprofit organizations in the Washington, D.C area, including Gallaudet University.
In 1985, she was one of the founding members of Mabuhay, Inc., a Filipino American community organization based in Prince George’s County, Maryland. She served on its first Board of Directors and chaired the association’s first Cultural Awareness Committee. She was a member of the Mabuhay Dance Group which performed Filipino folk dances in churches, schools, nursing homes, and various community events in the Washington, D.C. area.
In 1993, Mabuhay, Inc. established its Culture School, a weekend enrichment program for children ages 4–16. Bing was a member of its first teaching staff that conducted fun, hands-on activities in arts and crafts, music, folk dance, history and conversational Filipino. Bing taught in the Culture School for several years.
An active parishioner of St. Matthias Church, Bing served as Director of the "Kaibigan Choir", a group of Filipino American parishioners which provided musical liturgy at Filipino Masses. She was also an active member of the St. Matthias Church Prayer Group and the Couples for Christ at St. Bernard Church in Riverdale, MD for a number of years before her family moved to Frederick, MD. A devout Catholic, Bing will always be remembered for her kindness, charity and genuine love for others. She leaves behind her loving husband of 49 years, Anthony, and their daughter, Melissa (along with her dog TJ), who will miss her immensely but knowing confidently, that she is with God in peace.
