Our loving and gentle Mom Mom/Mom was reunited with her husband, Jack Doll, her twin sister and family on March 17, 2024. Born October 3,1927, in Frederick, Maryland, she is the daughter of Edward and Ruth Blumenauer. Jane graduated from Frederick High School in 1944 and led a long, enriched life working in a variety of careers, raising six children, being actively involved in a variety of organizations, and loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jane and Jack were teenage sweethearts and married on July 15, 1950, a marriage that was just shy of 70 years before Jack passed. Their love and support for one another was deep as they partnered in almost everything they did.
Jane’s first career was as a switchboard operator and she worked her way up to supervisor. She paused her working career to raise her children. She then went back to work as an assistant librarian at West Frederick Middle School before becoming the principal’s secretary. Later, she went to work with her husband at their Hertz franchise as his Corporate Secretary. They retired together at 78 years old.
When Jack was involved in the Jaycees, the wives began the Frederick Jaycees Wives Club in which Jane was the first president in 1956. Jane was also active with the Frederick Women’s Club, holding several offices but loved working on the annual Mardi Gras fundraiser. During Frederick’s bicentennial, Jane served as co-chair of the Sabre and Roses gala. Jane also worked the election polls for many years where she and Jack enjoyed seeing friends in their Frederick Community.
Jane loved to knit and was an outstanding seamstress. She loved making dresses for her daughters which often matched. She sewed prom, wedding and christening gowns. She made all the uniforms when the Shamrock Majorette group was formed. She also made costumes for the majorettes competing in individual events. Jane sewed outfits for the handbell choirs at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ. She could sew anything with or without a pattern.
Perhaps Jane’s proudest involvement in service was with Eastern Star. Jane served as Worthy Matron for the Frederick Chapter #79 and as the Maryland Worthy Grand Matron. She held many other positions, some honorary, as she and Jack traveled throughout the United States attending local, state and national meetings and making many friends.
Jane and Jack enjoyed traveling internationally. Never slowing down, they embarked on an ambitious month-long trip to Hong Kong and China at the age of 86. At the age of 92 they visited the National World War II museum in New Orleans.
Jane was a strong woman. In 1991, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. For over 20 years, she has bravely dealt with the complexity of Alzheimer’s Disease. We are truly blessed for the time and love she gave us.
Jane leaves behind her 6 children: John (Maggie), Jim (Michelle), Nancy, Lynn (Henry Cabanillas), Kim Rehmann (Ken), Jay (Debbie); her 11 grandchildren: Chris (Megan), Nick, Jacqueline Messner (Ben), Colin (Danielle), Cadence (Gino Harutyunyan ), Brendon Rehmann, Katelyn Grimes (Quinn), Jason, Corinne Burchett (Lloyd), Julianna and Coleman Cabanillas; her great grandchildren: Jamison, Eva, Lyla, Theron, Grant and Hayes Messner, Mila and Gia Harutyunyan. Jane, like Jack, supported their children by being active and present in their many activities as they were growing up which then continued with their grandchildren.
Jane is now hand in hand with her husband, Jack, reunited with her parents, and her other siblings, twin sister Jean, June, Bo and Bobby.

As a native Fredericktonian, she was proud to call Frederick her home. Her financial contributions to local charities are a reflection of her desire to enrich and support others. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Frederick Alzheimer’s Association or to the Community Foundation of Frederick at Frederickcountygives.org/Doll
