Ms. Lynne Denise Osmond, 75, of Frederick, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Johns Hopkins Hospital after a brief battle with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia.
Lynne was born on September 16, 1948 in Canterbury, England to Hubert and Isobel Osmond. In school, she excelled as an athlete playing netball and rounders, as well as winning numerous awards in track and field. She had an adventurous spirit and followed many famous British bands before any American ever heard of the British Invasion, even riding on the back of the motorcycle of the lead singer of a band that you have definitely heard of (but we are not saying who).
Her adventurous spirit was also evident when, in 1966 at the age of 18, she “crossed the pond” to work as a nanny in South Carolina. Soon after that, she moved to New York and then Frederick, Maryland where she would take on a new adventure in raising three children. In addition to taking care of her children during this time, she also worked as caretaker at Heartly House, an organization that provides comprehensive services, free of charge, to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, and child abuse.
Later in life she would regain her interest in being a superfan of English rock and roll, and especially of the Moody Blues. She would regularly travel up and down the East Coast to see their shows and meetup with friends and other members of their fan club. One of her most prized possessions was an autographed photo of her and the lead singer of the Moody Blues, Justin Heyward.
Lynne also loved to celebrate others, and you could always count on receiving a card for your birthday or anniversary (arriving almost always a week early and with an ensuing phone call to ensure that you had received it.) She also LOVED Christmas, and Christmas decorations, and giving presents. For her the Christmas season lasted from the day after Thanksgiving until the end of January.
She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Alf Hogbin. She is survived by her children, William, Christian, and Jamie, her grandchildren, and her English nieces, Jane, Gillian, and Claire, and their families.
At her request, there will be no viewing or formal funeral service and interment will be private at Mount Olivet cemetery. However, a Celebration of Life will be held in the coming months. Please contact her son Christian Miller at cjm267 at gmail.com if you would like details once they have been finalized.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (https://givenow.lls.org/) or to Heartly House (https://heartlyhouse.charityproud.org/donate).
