Linda Irene Turner

December 21, 1955 — January 4, 2025

Linda Irene Turner, 69, of Middletown, MD, fell asleep on Saturday,  January 4, 2025, with her dedicated husband Tim by her side, and woke up in Heaven.

Her grand adventure in middle earth began on December 21, 1955, in Placerville, CA.  She was born to Arthur Long and Irene Klemm Long.  Her story rivals that of a work of captivating fiction, even from a young age.  She loved books, and could sometimes be found as a child in a blanket fort with a book, a piece of fruit and a pillow.  Her love of reading would embellish the rest of her life.  Anyone who knows and loves her knows her love of books!

She took after her Grandma Long with her love of horses.  She learned to ride as a child through family friends in Northern California,  and had her own horse, "Patrick Daze", to take care of on their land for two years! Her riding skills never diminished,  as she could be found decades later scaling a volcano in Guatemala on horseback,  or venturing into the rainforest of Chile, still skilled in riding!

Linda loved band and dance as a young person.  She played clarinet in a distinguished band from junior high into high school (a band chosen to play at Disneyland once).  She would ultimately meet her wonderful husband Tim while doing so.  They were married on June 7th, 1975, under giant redwood trees in Armstrong Grove State Park.  Tim and Linda traveled the world together, exploring 47 of the 50 US States,  32 countries in North America,  Central America, South America, and Europe, Australia and New Zealand, just to name a few places!  She was able to see her favorite movie series come to life when they visited New Zealand, where Lord of the Rings was filmed.  Her love for the series instigated grand themed dinner parties, movie nights, and she even celebrated J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday every year!

Tim and Linda would have more company for their adventures, when they welcomed their daughter Sarah in 1981, and their son Adam in 1986, both dearly cherished by their parents!

Linda was a phenomenal hostess, baker, cook, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend in general.   She had a way of making family and friends feel always welcome.  For years she spearheaded the Maryland Chapter of the Trail Dames, and led dozens of women on wonderful hikes throughout the region, teaching them practical ways to enjoy hiking and backpacking!  Tim is also an avid hiker and was instrumental in teaching her all the aspects of hiking!  It became among one of her many passions.  Together they walked hundreds of miles on the Camino in Portugal, Spain and France, meeting and inspiring others along the way!

Linda had a green thumb, a heart of gold and a love for the color cornflower blue.  She loved all things Celtic, a good cup of tea, food and wine from all around the world, hunting for treasures at a thrift or antique shop, enjoying nature especially on their serene and beautiful farm, but also while hiking.  She made the ordinary come to life.

In addition to her dedicated partner Tim, her daughter Sarah Brown (Tom), grandsons Nolan, Zachariah and Oliver, and son Adam Turner, she is survived by her sister Laura Ross (Richard), her brother Phil Long (Robin), her kitties Theo, Moseby and Wee Sam, and friends and family all across the country.  She is predeceased by a granddaughter,  Charlotte.

Her celebration of life will occur at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home in Frederick, MD, on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025.  Family and friends will be received from 10am-11am, the service will start at 11am and interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, also in downtown Frederick.  Pastor John Miller of Hilltop Christian Fellowship in Clear Spring, MD will be officiating.

In Linda's honor, please cherish the gift of time you're given with your family and friends.  Seize the day and don't assume you have tomorrow.
