Saturday, June 17 2023, my husband Leonard Grossnickle Nicodemus (Mary) went top be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and our two sons Dwayne and Marc. That cruel disease, Dementia/Alzheimers, took eleven years of his life.
Leonard was born April 6, 1938 in Frederick County, MD. He was the only child of Jessie and Margaret Nicodemus. They made their home in Johnsville, MD.
Leonard and I met in high school. Following his graduation he joined the Army Reserves and was also employed with Maryland State Highway Administration. We married in 1959. Tuesday, June 20, we would have been married 64. In August 1961 we were blessed with our first son Dwayne Allen. During that year Leonard was called to active duty due to the Berlin Crisis. In 1963 we were again blessed with our second son Marc Daniel. Both of our sons went home to heaven in November 2008 - Dwayne on November 7 and Marc November 24.
Leonard retired from the state and then worked for McHenry's part time. I don't recall him ever missing a day at work.
Leonard was not a man of many words as he was quiet. Never did he say an unkind word about anyone. He loved the Orioles, Ravens, fishing, hunting and traveling and of course our two sons. He was a faithful husband, a great father and always went to church.
Surviving are five grandchildren: Joshua (Brittany), Nathan (Belle), Benjamin (Meghan), Katie David (Mike) and Jenna Whedman (Eshel). We have 17 great grandchildren and the 18th one due in August. He is also survived by our daughter-in-law Dawn Gonce (Chris).
A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 11:30 A.M. at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD. Our three grandsons will honor their grandfather officiating his service.
We were extremely blessed by the professional care given to him by the nurses, doctor and staff from Hospice Health and Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy.
On behalf of myself and my family, I thank all of you who would like to make a donation to Frederick Health Hospice in memory of Leonard.
