Mr. Lawrence "Larry" William Heslin, a resident of New Market, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital. Born February 22,1946 at Edgewood Arsenal, MD, to U.S. Army Major William Gordon Heslin and Mary Elizabeth (Hickey) Heslin, both of Brooklyn, NY. Larry attended St. John’s Catholic School and graduated in 1964 from St. John’s Literary Institution at Prospect Hall in Frederick, MD. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Having attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and Hood College, he earned a B.S. in Political Science.
Larry had a career in journalism starting at the Frederick News Post and later reporting on the radio with WFMD and for the Maryland Gazette. He also worked as a writer-editor-photographer for the federal government, where he earned many awards and commendations for his outstanding work. Larry enjoyed nature photography and specialized camera equipment, studying American and world history, playing guitar, and riding his motorcycles. He was especially delighted in spending time with his family, particularly his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his creativity and witty and quick sense of humor.
Larry leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Ann Louise (Lefko) Heslin. He is survived by his children Laura Evans (Seth), Catonsville, MD, CW2 John Heslin, Ret. (Dr. Mary), Charlotte, NC, and Sarah Small (Timothy), Ellicott City, MD. He was predeceased by a daughter Karyn Amanda Heslin. He leaves six grandchildren Aidan, Liam, and Zoe Evans, and Aubrey, Joseph, and Maryn Small.
Larry is also survived by five siblings Richard Heslin (Kathi), James Heslin (Sue), Kevin Heslin (Joanne), Thomas Heslin (Lori), and Kathleen Heslin (fiancé Mark Waddell).
Funeral services are being arranged by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home- P.A., Frederick, MD. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 12-1pm. A Celebration of Life will begin at 1PM. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD.
