Lawrence James Faucette, 58, of Frederick, Maryland passed away on October 30,
2023 after a brave adventure at University of Maryland Medical Center with his family by
his side. Larry was the husband and best friend to his wife, Ann, of almost 38 years.
Larry was born February 8, 1965 to the late John and Marcia (Parker) Faucette in
Hammond, Indiana. He was raised by his mother Marcia and step father late Russell
“Bud” Bullis in New Hampshire. Larry learned many life lessons and often spoke fondly
of his late maternal grandfather, Henry Eaton Parker. He graduated from Kingswood
Regional High School in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. After a short stint in college (very
short stint), Larry joined the US Navy and served 20 years as a US Navy Corpsman,
Laboratory Technician, and Histopathology Technician. It was while attending the
Army’s school for laboratory sciences that he met the love of his life, Ann King. They
were married about 6 months later – not because of scandal but they knew they were
perfect for each other. Larry’s naval career took them to Washington DC, Oakland, CA,
Okinawa Japan, and back to Washington DC. Larry’s sea service included 8 months on
the USNS Mercy during Operation Desert Shield. He attained the rank of Petty Officer
First Class before retiring in 2004. Larry continued his Histology career by working as a
contractor for NIAID (National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Disease). He was
listed as author or co-author of many research papers during his time at NIAID. He
reluctantly retired due to his health and spent the next years making sure his wife Ann
was taken care of. Larry did the shopping and cooking. He was a fabulous cook, just
look at his wife.
Larry’s biggest accomplishment were his 2 sons. There was nothing Larry wouldn’t do
for them. Larry used any moment to instill a great work ethic – Do what you have to do
then you can do what you want to do. Larry was not religious, but that didn’t take away
from his lessons of do unto others as you would like to be treated.
Larry loved everyone. He rarely had a negative thing to say. Larry will be remembered
for his assortment of Hawaiian Shirts, Tilley Hats and bathrobes with hoods. Larry was
aware of his life’s expiration date. The glimmer of hope and an opportunity to be sure
his life had meaning was to accept a cardiac xenotransplantation. This gave Larry and
the family about 6 weeks to share stories, joke and laugh together. When it became
clear to Larry that going home was not an option, he chose to end his battle. Larry
chose this so his family could get on with their lives. This was the type of guy he was,
always thinking of others. He continued to joke, laugh and love to the end of his time
with us.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Ann of Frederick, MD, his sons Bryan Faucette
(Jessica Oliver) of Hagerstown, MD and Alexander Faucette of Frederick, MD, siblings
Deborah Boucher (Ron) of Rochester, NH, John Jr. (Theresa) of North Pole, AK, Karen
(Todd) Townsend of Rocky Point, NY, Michelle Greenbaum (Mike Rockwell) of Gaffney,
SC, and Russell Bullis Jr of Haverhill, MA, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and
great nephew. This includes special nieces Shaylee King of Holland Patent, NY and
Alisha Bullis of Haverhill, MA. Larry’s life was complete with his two dogs, Kate and
Lucy.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the many people at University of
Maryland Medical Center Cardiac Surgery ICU and the Cardiac Xenotransplantation
Research team who made us feel as important and cared for as Larry did. The work
you do changes people’s lives. You all gave Larry’s family a few more weeks with him
and hopefully a few more years for people in the future.
Larry’s motto for the last 6 months has been take life one step at a time. In lieu of
flowers, please take life one step at a time, smile and say hi to strangers, and remember
that any day could be the last. Online condolence messages may be left at
www.keeneybasford.com . A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
