Laura V. Routzahn

Laura Virginia "Jenny" Hale Routzahn, age 98, passed from this life on September 19, 2023 at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, MD. She was a resident of Rosemont, MD.

Jenny was born on September 18, 1925, at her grandparents' home on Lander Road, Jefferson, MD. She was the daughter of Lloyd David and May Ida Fawley Hale. Jenny grew up in Lander and was a 1942 graduate of Frederick High School.

In 1945, Jenny married Lester Joseph "Ted" Routzahn of Jefferson, MD and enjoyed 66 years of marriage before Ted's passing. After their marriage, Ted and Jenny lived in Washington, D.C. and then Springfield, VA. Jenny was employed by the federal government, working  in the accounting department for the War Department, the Army Surgeon General and the US Corps of Engineers. She retired in 1974 after 27 years of service. In 1983 Ted and Jenny returned to "home" living in Rosemont, MD. Jenny, then worked part time at Eyerly's Department Store in Frederick.

Jenny had a love for animals, especially her pet cats and dogs and backyard birds and squirrels. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of several bowling leagues. Jenny had a great sense of humor and it was a pleasure to be in her company. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Jefferson, MD.

Jenny is survived by nieces Mary Routzahn Handley and Nona Himes Myers and nephew Walter "Buttons" Routzahn as well as many great nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by her great nieces and their spouses Cheryl Himes Hawes (Stanley), Wendy Himes Campbell (Mike) and Karen Himes Ramirez.

Jenny was predeceased by her husband, Lester Joseph "Ted" Routzahn, sister Evelyn Marie Hale Merchant and brother-in-law George Merchant, special nephew Joseph Himes and wife Marcella as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 4 - 7 P.M. Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 3864 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Jefferson, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Jefferson, MD, The Animal Welfare League of Frederick or Hospice of Frederick County.
