Joyce Fay Sams

Joyce Fay Sams, 76, of Frederick, MD,  passed away May 29. 2023 at the Frederick Health Hospital. Born September 2, 1946 in Elkton, Maryland, to the late Steven Jefferson and Anna Mae (Corrnett) Philpott. She was the beloved wife to John Sams, who passed in 1990, and 30 year companion to Charles Bittinger.

Joyce worked as a dietician at North Hampton Nursing Home as well as the Ames Department store. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, penuckle, and dancing.

She is survived by; her son Steven Sams, her siblings David Philpott of WV, William Philpott (Linda) of MD, John Cornett, Carol Marshall (Brad) of KY, Janet Langenstein, , Brenda Burkett of PA, and Linda Everett, her grandchildren Isaiah and Angel Sams, her nieces and nephews; David Pogue, Stephanie Cline, Sharon Zies, Karen Perry, Robert Philpott, David G. Philpott of MD, Brian Philpott of WV, Kimberly Everly of MD, and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by, her sons William Sams and Johny Sams, her brother Robert Philpott and his wife Martha, her nephew Johny Everett, and sister-in-law JoAnn Philpott.

Family and friends can gather at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Monday June 5, 2023 from 12pm until the start of the funeral at 1pm. Interment will be held privately by the family.
