Joshua Paul Delauter, affectionately called JP, of Mt. Airy, MD passed away on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025. He is survived by his father Michael Paul Delauter and his sister Ashley Ratino and her husband James Ratino. He is preceded by his mother Loretta Delauter. He was born in Mt. Airy, MD on January 24th, 1994. He grew up tinkering with gas powered RC trucks, modifying his toy jeep into a snowplow and mowing the neighbor’s lawns, along with leaf removal and splitting wood. Joshua had an entrepreneurial drive from a very young age. This tinkering turned into working and modifying his many custom trucks which led to a career of working in multiple shops. JP was a genuine friend with a memorable laugh and smile, so much so that he was nicknamed “Smiley.” He had a kind soul that could be rather wild, a let us try anything once mindset, with homemade dirt bike jumps, truck pulls, and motocross tracks. JP endured a long journey with juvenile Huntington’s disease (JHD). He did so with grit, determination, and strength. There have been many difficulties during this past decade that has made JP’s testimony an inspirational one while he continued to have smiles throughout his trials. We make the joke that JP got to the pearly gates and he probably broke them. Jesus recklessly running to greet him with Mom and Granny not too far behind. Most importantly he is healed and so are they. We can all be comforted by the fact that this separation is temporary.
