John William Snyder

Mr. John William Snyder, age 71, of Keedysville, MD, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Frederick Health Hospital with his family by his side.

He was the loving husband of Susan Z. Snyder who preceded him in death in 2015, joined in marriage on July 15, 1972.

Born on July 12, 1951 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania he is the son of the late Floyd Jacob and Helen Brown Snyder.

John was a graduate of Catoctin High School, Class of 1970.

John retired after more than 35 years of working at the Saputo Dairy Foods, formerly Morningstar Foods and Capital Milk, in Frederick, MD where he was a machine operator and forklift operator. It was normal for John to have multiple part-time jobs at the same time as well to provide for his family. After retirement, he stayed active doing landscaping jobs and then DX’d cars.

In his youth, John worked at a gas station in Thurmont, MD where he developed a passion for vehicles and their restoration. He also had a passion for learning new trades, where he worked alongside friends and family to learn about farming, machinery, plumbing, carpentry and multiple other crafts.

John was a very social person and could make friends in any situation and always strived to get a smile from people. He was an active member of Big Oak Lodge in Middletown, MD where lifelong friendships were built.

When John wasn’t working, he enjoyed golfing, collectibles and antiques, and attending car races and car shows. His favorite times were spent with family and friends sharing a good meal and great conversation.

John is survived by his daughters, Andria Snyder (Ryan Dudrow) and Laura Tinney (Adam) and Andria’s son Evan Marvel-Snyder, all of Frederick, MD. Additionally, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Patricia (Crum) Zigler of Frederick, MD; sisters, Nancy Mahoney (Tim) of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Carol Myers (Bill) of Keymar, MD, brother-in-law, Richard Zigler (Susan) of Charles Town, WV, sister-in-laws, Patricia Zigler-Wachter of Frederick, MD and Jean Kotch (Robert) of Pompano Beach, FL. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Corey Mahoney (Carrie), Amanda Zigler Habel (Nathan), Joshua Zigler (Julie), Thomas Wachter and Kirsten Wachter Teal (Randy). John is preceded in death by his father-in-law Ward Zigler.

The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will be at 10 am, on Friday, February 24, 2023 in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
